Served on PTA, School Council, and/or Advisory
Council atCanby Lane ES, Miller Grove MS, Chapel Hill MS,
and Southwest DeKalb HS.

Served on Magnet/Theme/Charter Task
Force. This was an advisory committee charged with making
recommendations for expanding these school choice options.
Appointed by former superintendent Dr. James Hallford.

Served on Blue Ribbon Task Force. This
was an advisory committee charged with developing a 5 to 10 year
strategic recommendation for the school system. Served as
chair of Facilities subcommittee. Appointed by former board
member Mrs. Frances Edwards.

Served on Region 5 Design Team. Dividing
the county into regions so as to provide greater choice options in a
smaller geography was a recommendation from the Blue Ribbon Task
Force. This advisory committee made recommendations for school
choice within Region 5. Appointed by former board member Mrs.
Frances Edwards.
·
Served on Friends of DeKalb Education III
committee. This committee represented a cross section of
citizens across the county. Its objective was to advocate for
the continuation of the third Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax
(SPLOST). I was instrumental in developing the content to help
educate the community about the benefits of SPLOST.

Provided commentaries for community newspapers
on education related issues. CrossRoadNews provided a special
section for me known as “Eye on Education”.
·
Advocated for better communication to the
community at large. As a result, we have seen improvements to
the school system's website and now they broadcast school board
meetings, both for television and via webcast. The school
system is continuing to make better use of their “robo-call”
facility to inform the community of school news and events.

Frequent speaker at
DeKalb County School System Board of Education Work Sessions, during
Citizen Comment section. The objective was two fold, to
acknowledge accomplishments of school system while bringing
attention to issues of concern that impact the education of children
throughout the community.
Currently serving on
·
Athletic Advisory Committee. This committee
makes recommendation regarding on behalf of the athletic programs
for the school system.
·
Capital Improvements Citizens Advisory
Committee. This is an oversight committee whose purpose is to review
the Capital Improvement Plan and report the status of the Plan to
the community.
·
Career Technology Advisory Committee. This
committee helps to promote and create greater awareness of the
Career Technology programs in DeKalb County Schools.
·
Legislative Advisory Committee. This committee
helps to develop and promote legislative advocacy policies on behalf
of the school system. This past year, we were instrumental in
helping to create greater community awareness of Georgia House
Speaker Glenn Richardson’s suggested changes on how schools should
be funded (GREAT Plan) and the impact it would have on DeKalb County
Schools.

Technology Advisory Committee. This committee
reviews technology initiatives for the school system.
