Who is Ernest Brown?My job responsibilities take me around the country. As I visited various cities, I gained a better understanding as to how a strong public education system helps determine the quality of life for a community. The existence of a strong public education system is a ‘check off item’ for companies when they determine whether to establish or expand operations. A key indicator to determine the strength of a school system is whether students are achieving. Like most parents, my initial involvement with the school system was collaborating with my local school to ensure my children got a rigorous, quality education. It expanded to wanting the same for their classmates, my immediate community, and then the community at large. I found myself getting involved with school related county-wide initiatives and advisories. As a result of my involvement, I met many ‘like minded’ citizens throughout the county who love their communities and want the best for the entire school system. I would like to take this energy and passion for seeing our children succeed in education to the next level by representing the citizens of DeKalb County on the school board. My focus will be on improving student achievement for all students. I will work to build coalitions with citizens, school officials, elected officials, and education advocates to find workable solutions to achieve this goal. When you combine my technical business experience with my current knowledge of the school system, I believe I will bring a fresh perspective to the school board. My personal backgroundEducation has been a part of my entire life. I was born and grew up in Savannah, GA. My parents were educators. My mother is a retired Title 1 Coordinator for the school system. My father is a retired Vocational Education Assistant Professor from Savannah State University. My stepmother is a retired school librarian. I attended the Georgia Institute of Technology where I graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Science. For over the past 20 years, I have worked for Information Builders , a privately held New York based Software Company that specializes in enterprise business intelligence and integration solutions. I served over 8 years as the Technical Director for Customer Education, managing both the sales and delivery of training services for Information Builders. I am currently a Sales Support Director. |
